Kids In Distress

To the friends and supporters of Kids in Distress:

“God gave us two hands, one to help ourselves and the other to help others”

We are entering into a new year that promises to be an exciting and beneficial one for everyone involved. When it comes to giving back, there isn’t a group more dedicated than the KID Auxiliary. I represent a program that will nourish your hearts. Involved with the Auxiliary since 2004. I have had the pleasure of enjoying many hands on experiences through special activities with the children to community outreach where I have shared the story of KID to promote awareness. In 2016-17, the Auxiliary’s main function is to partner with the Agency to fundraise, volunteer and raise awareness. Last year, I am proud to say that we wrote a check to KID for $200,000.00. Not only did we donate funds, but we were involved with the many programs that make KID the special organization it is.

There are many ways that you can help. You can choose to be a year round supporter by becoming a member of the KID Auxiliary. With your membership, you will receive information on all of the opportunities to get involved and learn about what we do as an organization. Meetings take place monthly.

You can also help to raise funds through particular events. There are events hosted by the Auxiliary. The first one for the new season will be a member guest event, Butterfly Bingo, on Thursday, September 29, 2016. The Hero 5K will be the Auxiliary’s signature event and primary fundraiser taking place Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Vista View park in Broward County.

There are also signature fundraising events that KID Inc puts on that we happily support such as: Boys 'N Toys - A private yacht hop during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (November); The Inlet Challenge bicycle ride and Fostercare Holiday Party (happening jointly in December); The Duckfest Derby - A family fun day where 30,000 ducks, "adopted" for $5 each, float down the New River to the finish line to win fabulous prizes (April); Cooking with KID - A hands on experience empowering our children with your personal “Recipe for Success” while preparing a meal in a professional kitchen (June); and the RBC Golf Tournament (March).

You can also volunteer and interact directly with children served by KID. The community based programs that we support are the the heart of the agency and have proven positive results to many families in the community. Activities are planned for the on-campus Preschool monthly by the Auxiliary. This is nourishment for the soul! We are also supporting a program to respite on-campus foster families so they can enjoy some time and know that their children are well cared for. (This program is a yearly commitment and applicants must be fingerprinted by the agency to participate.) The Holiday Adopt-a-family, where last year we gave holiday gifts to a single mother with 7 children, is another fun way to contribute. KID Holiday Party where 300 children and their foster parents come together for a fun day filled with holiday spirit is another heartwarming place to volunteer. We also do a Thanksgiving Food Drive to aid families during the holiday season. Our own children help out and earn service hours through Kids Helping KID program.

So please come and join us! Thank you for your continued support of the Auxiliary! We need you to make things happen! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I look forward to sharing great times with you all.
